I would love to have a baby someday, but I don’t know if I could. I don’t know if I could deal with all my child’s problems as well as my own. I don’t know how I’d help my child with math homework. I don’t know how I’d pay for my child’s education. I don’t know how I’d comfort my child when she comes home from school after having a bad day.

I love to imagine myself growing fuller as a child grows inside me, my child, and feeling that closeness that would be impossible to feel with anyone else. My father and I were talking today on our way to my brother’s graduation, and he said that the most lovely relationship is one between a mother and her child. And I agree. He told me he fondly recalls watching his wife, my mother, breast-feed the infant version of myself. There is such closeness in that relationship that a man and his child can never have simply because his make-up won’t allow it. I want that closeness, but I don’t know if I can ever have it.

After the graduation and we were taking pictures outside the auditorium, I observed all the relationships that exist in this unordinary family. I saw a lot of love in different forms and it made me really happy. Despite all the problems that may exist, love is at the core of it all. I’m sorry I’m such a sap all the time. But thinking in this way helps me function.

I don’t like when people try to define love. Love is this, love is that. I mean, is that really necessary? Isn’t it already a universal feeling that everyone already understands? Just love. That’s all you have to do.

Very beautiful Selena. Your thoughts about the picture taking was exactly what I was thinking at the time. It was the closest I’ve ever been to having all my 15 siblings together in one place. I was missing four brothers. This feeling is a difficult one to convey, but your words do a great start.

I had a dream last night where the family pug Rufus had a knife and was coming towards me. I tried to stop him with food but then he tossed the knife and I dodged it. Then he picked it up again, I fought with him, and managed to get it away from him. Then, I kept yelling “bad boy! bad dog!” to him, as Ashley pet him. I got mad at her for encouraging Rufus to attack people with knives, and then Rufus responded by farting loudly.
